ABOUT COMMUNITY LIFESTYLE SUPPORT INC.

Community Lifestyle Support Inc. (CLS) is a state government funded disability service set up to assist and educate people with disabilities in establishing a more productive and independent lifestyle. The service was established in 1993 as a result of the concerns of parents of children with disabilities. Over the years CLS has strived to achieve best practice standards in disability service delivery. This is reflected in the vision statement of the service:
Community Lifestyle Support Inc. will be a consumer directed service within a community equally includes people with disabilities in all aspects of community life.

To achieve its vision the service has set it objectives in the following manner:
• Maintain people in their own home and to with daily living arrangement of their own choice.
• Assist people to use community services and institutions e.g. banks, shops, public transport, etc.
• Facilitate increased independence and competence by providing adaptive living skills training where necessary such as cooking, cleaning, budgeting, shopping, personal care, recreational planning.
• Ensure that the person with a disability and/or their advocate is involved in the planning and implementation of their own support service.
• Facilitate participation and integration in the local community
• Facilitate the dignity and privacy of the people involved
• Be responsive to the changing needs of the person for whom the service is established.
This is evidenced by the establishment of number of state funded programs which has this placed as a leader in the non-government sector. The following programs evidence this:
• Post School Support Program
• Attendant Care Program
• Institutional Reform
• Project 300
• Adult Lifestyle Support program

Community Lifestyle Support is involved with delivery of services to wide a cross section of people in the Bundaberg and Burnett Shire. To deliver these services requires a skilled workforce. Community Lifestyle Support Inc. takes pride in the quality of disability service delivery. In order to achieve high standards of service delivery it is equally important to maintain support worker skills, CLS has facilitated the progression of support workers through Certificate 4 in Community Studies (Disability) in conjunction with the Wide Bay TAFE. To complement the theoretical knowledge implemented an extensive in-house training program for all support workers. Each support worker has his or her support skills competency assessed on an ongoing basis. This ensures each support worker’s has a thorough understanding of the person’s need are supporting people who receive a service from CLS.
